Charter for Peace is the most recent programme developed
by the Foundation and offers a unique approach to encouraging
positive behaviour and attitudes within school settings.
Currently in it's pilot phase, this programme takes a ‘whole school’ approach
and aims to encourage children and young people to develop
their awareness, understanding of and involvement in citizenship
within their homes, schools and communities.
The programme is based around 6 core values which we call
‘pillars for peace’ and include: Leading by Example, Effective Communication, Awareness, Respect, Non violence and Tolerance.
In order to achieve success in these six areas, schools are
given a strategic framework which encourages and motivates
young people to become more peaceful and responsible citizens,
with a greater vision of creating a more harmonious and supportive
school environment.
This framework has of a number of options from which the school
and young people can choose and in doing so, tailor the programme
to suit the needs of the individual school and pupils. Ranging
from policy development to short courses and voluntary work;
the framework of options includes work with senior management,
teaching staff, support staff and pupils to enable a whole
school approach to culture change or advancement within the
school.
